Until you alter your core beliefs, they will hinder you from proficiently applying the Four Leaves of Earning Serendipity to your work. This does not mean you will not experience good fortune. It is certain that you possess proficiency with at least one of the leaves and this will bring you some good fortune—more so if you have surrounded yourself with others who possess complementary leaves. Still, your ability in and of yourself to affect your fortune will not make dramatic increases until you are intrinsically motivated by a belief that the opportunities you see and seize (as well as those you miss) can dramatically alter your good fortune in your work. This is often the result of a core belief that you cannot control much of the misfortune that befalls you. Until you learn to believe otherwise, you will remain ineffective at seeing the opportunities inherent in failure and misfortune. Perhaps negative emotions get the best of you in such circumstances. This can hinder you, but your passion can be immensely valuable if reigned and guided. As you begin applying the Four Leaves in your work, begin taking note of the areas of your life that are not as you’d like. Are these circumstances a result of mere happenstance? Or are they the result of an opportunity that you did not see or that you failed to seize? Hindsight can be a candid teacher if we are willing and wise enough to learn from her. If you will begin to increase your ability to earn serendipity in your work, you must begin to see, sow, grow, and share the harvest of opportunities in more than the obvious places around you. There is much you can learn from the immigrant and the entrepreneur who find more good fortune in the obscure places where few think to look.
